What is yin yoga?
Yin cultivates awareness and space in the mind and body through the release of connective tissue (including fascia, ligaments, tendons). It involves holding poses for longer periods (3-5 minutes) with the support of props such as blankets, blocks and bolsters. Poses are mostly floor based.
What are the benefits of yin?
Yin yoga is a healing and meditative practice that allows one to find stillness amongst this fast paced Yang world. It can be so hard to slow down and we can often feel as though we are moving through life in an overstimulated, mindless and burnt out fashion. Yin yoga has huge benefits both physically and mentally - it improves flexibility and range of motion in the joints alongside rebalancing energy flow, nourishing the body and calming the mind. The practice activates the parasympathetic 'rest and digest' nervous system which can reduce stress and inflammation in the body.
Who is the class for? Is it right for me?
It is my aim for this class to be inclusive and variations and guidance will be offered throughout. The beauty of yin is that you can take your time to find a position that feels okay for your body to delve deeper, and find that sweet spot between effort and ease in your practice.
What do I need to bring?
Props including bolsters, bricks, blocks, belts, blankets, eye masks and mats will be available at the studio. Come along in comfortable clothing you can move and stretch in. Feel free to bring your own props or anything else to support your practice.
Please do get in touch if you have any questions.
Hope to see you on the mat, Amy x
